KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak inaugurated the Immigration Office building and barracks constructed within the premises of the Armed Police Force Border Outpost (BOP) at the Nepal-China border checkpoint in Nechung, Mustang, on Wednesday.
Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Surendra Raj Pandey, Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadee, Inspector General of Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar and Inspector General of Armed Police Force Raju Aryal among others attended the ceremony.
The BOP, which was established on June 1, 2020, has been carrying out tasks such as rescue of citizens affected by natural disasters like snowfall and landslides, control of smuggling and trafficking, reduction of criminal and undesirable activities in border areas, and regular monitoring of border pillars and border areas, according to a statement issued by the Armed Police Force.
The BOP is located some 97 km north of Mustang district headquarters Jomsom near the Korala border point.
Out of 254 BOPs of the Armed Police Force, 10 are located on the country’s border. They include Tinkar (Darchula), Hilsa (Humla), Nechung (Mustang), Samdo (Gorkha), Timure (Rasuwa), Tatopani and Ghurnsa (Sindhupalchowk), Lamabagar (Dolakha), Kimathanka (Sankhuwasabha) and Olangchung Gola (Teplejung).
