KATHMANDU: Ikramul Hasan Shakil has become the first individual from Bangladesh to complete the formidable “Great Himalaya Trail” expedition in Nepal.
Shakil covered the challenging distance of over 1,700 kilometers in 102 days. Shakil embarked on this extraordinary journey from Hilsa border point along Nepal-China border and concluded the epic trip at Kanchanjunga Base Camp (5,142 meters) in eastern Nepal on July 9.
Although the exact data of individuals completing GHT is not available, it is estimated that less than 50 have completed this arduous trek so far.
The Great Himalaya Trail (GHT) is an awe-inspiring and challenging long-distance trekking route that traverses the entire length of the Nepal Himalayas, and takes adventurers through some of the most remote and spectacular landscapes on the planet.
The trail is divided into various sections, each offering its own unique experiences and difficulties. These sections include the Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Everest, Rolwaling, Langtang, Manaslu, Annapurna, Mustang, Dolpo, and Humla. Each section presents trekkers with diverse challenges, from high-altitude passes to rugged terrains, crossing glaciers, and encountering diverse flora and fauna.
Speaking at an event organized in his honor by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu, Shakil shared his experience of doing one of the most challenging treks in the world. On the occasion, the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, felicitated Shakil and congratulated him for the success on GHT.
