KATHMANDU: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has selected Nepal as the host for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Qualifier.

“Nepal has been named the host for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Qualifier from January 12 to February 2 next year,” ICC said in a media release on Thursday.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will hold the matches at the Lower Stadium and Upper Stadium in Mulpani, Kathmandu.

A total of 10 teams will play in the Qualifiers. Four of them will earn their spot in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be hosted jointly by England and Wales.

Bangladesh and Scotland have earned automatic spots in the Qualifier by virtue of their participation in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Similarly, Thailand and Nepal qualified through the Asia regional qualifier, while the USA qualified from the Americas region.

Two teams, each from Africa and Europe, and one from the East Asia-Pacific region, will book their tickets to Kathmandu for the qualifier through their respective regional qualifiers.

According to ICC, the 10 teams will be pooled in two groups of five. The top three teams from each group will qualify for the Super Six stage. The top four teams after the Super Six stage will qualify for the World Cup, which will be held from June 12 to July 2026.
