KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Dr Shekhar Koirala has announced his intention to run for the party presidency in the upcoming general convention.
Speaking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Thursday, Koirala said his claim for the party’s top position is natural given that he finished second in the previous presidential election. “I have been traveling nationwide to meet with party leaders and workers. My candidacy for the position of party president should not be misconstrued,” he added.
Stating that the two largest parties in parliament joined hands to ensure political stability in the country, Koirala said constitutional amendments are necessary for political stability and that changes are needed in the electoral system.
Koirala also claimed that NC will join the Koshi province government within a week.
