KATHMANDU: Kulman Ghising, who was dismissed from his position as Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) recently, has said that he has no regrets about his tenure.

Organizing at a press conference in the capital on Friday, Ghising claimed that while some may be pleased by the decision to discourage dedicated civil servants, he does not feel defeated. “The public knows how the full force of the state was wielded against one employee,” Ghising said. “But I am neither excited nor disheartened by it. I did nothing wrong while in NEA.”

Ghising accused the government of undermining his morale and stated that his conscience did not allow him to harm the institution or the nation. He clarified that ending load-shedding was not a miraculous achievement but an honest effort.. He also alleged that certain interest groups have long been attacking his reputation and dignity.

“When I assumed office, only 42% of households had access to electricity, but by the end of my tenure, 99% of households were electrified,” he said. “To be able to bring electricity to every household, including the underprivileged, is my greatest achievement,” he said.

Though he was dismissed in a  disrespectful and demoralizing manner, Ghising thanked the government in a sarcastic tone: “I am grateful that they forcibly removed a civil servant who should have been honored upon departure.”

The Supreme Court on Thursday denied an interim order against the government’s decision to sack him.

The cabinet meeting held on March 24 decided to remove him from the position and appointed Hitendra Dev Shakya in his place.
