I didn’t issue shooting order: Lekhak

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has claimed that he did not issue any order to use force against the GenZ protesters on September 8.

Speaking to journalists at the NC Central Party Office in Sanepa on Friday, Lekhak said that neither he nor the former Prime Minister had given any order to open fire or take any other repressive action against the movement.

He dismissed claims that the Prime Minister or Home Minister had instructed security forces to open fire as baseless.
“The unfortunate incidents occurred because of infiltration into the Gen Z protest,” he said. “We need to understand the demands raised by the Gen Z youths and move forward while upholding democratic values and principles.”

He said all political parties must rise above agitation, bias, prejudice and revenge, and work responsibly to establish the rule of law in the country.

Lekhak expressed confidence that the judicial inquiry commission formed to investigate the incidents of September 8 and 9 would carry out its work in line with the constitution and legal provisions.
