Hong Kong defeats Nepal by two runs

KATHMANDU: Nepal suffered a narrow two-run defeat against Hong Kong in its third match of the 2025 Uganda Women’s T20 Quadrangular Series at the Entebbe Cricket Oval on Monday.

Batting first, Hong Kong posted 100 runs for the loss of seven wickets in its allotted 20 overs. In reply, Nepal was out for 98 runs losing seven wickets.

Natasha Miles top-scored for Hong Kong, scoring 35 runs off 42 balls, while Mariko Hill contributed 21 runs. Kary Chan and Yasmin Daswani chipped in with 12 and 11 runs, respectively.

Indu Barma and Ishowri Bist claimed two wickets each for Nepal, while Puja Mahato and Rachana Kumari Chaudhary contributed with a wicket apiece.

In reply, Nepal’s chase got off to a shaky start as opener Samjhana Khadka was dismissed for just one run. Sana Praveen (10) and Puja Mahato (19) attempted to stabilize the innings, but Praveen’s departure in the eighth over added pressure on Nepal. Captain Indu Barma (32) and Bindu Rawal (14) kept Nepal in the hunt. However, the dismissals of Kabita Joshi and Rubina Chhetri for ducks, both run out, tilted the momentum in Hong Kong’s favor. Roma Thapa’s quickfire 13 off 12 balls provided a late spark, but Nepal ultimately fell two runs short of the target.

Mariko Hill took two wickets for Hong Kong, while Mei Wai Siu and Kary Chan claimed one wicket each.

Nepal lost its opening match to Namibia by six wickets but bounced back to secure a thrilling one-wicket victory against hosts Uganda in the second match.

Nepal will face Namibia again in its next match on Wednesday.
