KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Special Inquiry Committee formed to study the misuse of cooperative savings has directed the home ministry to repatriate individuals who have fled to foreign countries after misusing people’s deposits held in cooperatives.
On Monday, the committee summoned Ministry of Home Affairs officials Ramesh Lekhak and Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, providing them with the names of 18 individuals.
Although these 18 names are included in the annex of the investigation report prepared by the police, they have not yet been brought into the scope of the investigation as they are abroad. The committee has directed the Home Ministry to locate and repatriate these 18 individuals implicated in the misappropriation of cooperative funds.
Surya Thapa, the chairperson of the cooperatives, stated that it is necessary to repatriate GB Rai, involved in the misappropriation of cooperative deposits in Sanu Paila, Sahara, Suryadarshan, Swarnalaxmi, Hamro Naya Krishi, Supreme, and Samanta cooperatives; Bharat Maharjan, Raj Maya Maharjan, Sachin Maharjan, and Sarala Maharjan of Sumeru and Kalimati cooperatives; and Gyan Bahadur and Than Bahadur Budha Magar of Suryadarshan cooperative.
Likewise, the committee has directed the home ministry to initiate the process fo bringing Bhupendra Rai, Tej Bahadur Bomjan Tamang, and Lilanath Gautam of Shiva Shikhar cooperatives; Dev Kumar Nepali, Chheda Nepali, and Deepak Paudel of Image cooperatives; Tasviran Khatun and Asraf Ali of Sana Paila cooperatives; Prem Dhwaj Lama of Kantipur cooperatives; Subash KC of Sahara and Supreme cooperatives; and Mahashankar Regmi of Megadim cooperatives into the country for investigation.
