KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed subordinate agencies to provide details of licensed firearms.
The home ministry issued a circular to finish details of licensed firearms to all 77 district administration offices on Tuesday, a day after two persons were arrested from the Supreme Court premises on Monday with licensed weapons.
“All district administration offices are requested to provide the details of weapons licensed so far within 24 hours,” the home ministry’s circular reads.
As per the Arms and Ammunition Act of 1962, individuals can possess firearms by seeking a license from the local administration.
The district administration offices have been asked to furnish details of license holders, the purpose of carrying firearms, types of firearms allowed, the number of firearms allowed, license renewal details, and whether all licenses have been renewed regularly. Likewise, local administration has also been asked to furnish details of action taken against those misusing licensed weapons.
