KATHMANDU: Fagu Purnima, also known as Holi, is being celebrated across the country with great fanfare and rejoicing. Symbolizing mutual harmony, goodwill and enthusiasm, this festival is celebrated with great fervor. While the hilly regions of the country are celebrating Holi on Thursday, the Tarai/Madhesh region will observe the festival with special enthusiasm on Friday. In the Mithila region, the festivities of Holi begin as soon as the month of Falgun starts.
This festival holds religious and cultural significance and carries a message of social unity. Although the ways of celebrating Holi vary across different communities and geographies, its core purpose remains to share happiness, eliminate discrimination, and strengthen brotherhood.
Security arrangements have been tightened across the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, and the administration has urged people to celebrate Holi in a dignified manner.
In his message to the people on the occasion of Fagu Purnima, President Ram Chandra Paudel expressed his belief that the festival strengthens social harmony and national unity. He also said the festival would further reinforce Nepal’s diverse culture.
