KATHMANDU: Heavy hailstorms have lashed areas including Jarsingpauwa and Matatirtha in Kathmandu following the activation of a western low-pressure system.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light to moderate rainfall is likely in some places of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, including the Kathmandu Valley, until Tuesday evening. There is also a possibility of snowfall in high hilly, and mountainous regions, according to the division.

Meteorologist Bibhuti Pokharel said the system that developed in the upper atmosphere is expected to weaken after the evening, leading to a gradual improvement in weather conditions.

Scattered rainfall has also been forecast in the hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Meanwhile, fog and mist are likely to persist in the Tarai districts until Thursday morning.
