Habeas corpus petition filed at Supreme Court for Prasai’s release

KATHMANDU: Advocate Dr Surendra Bhandari has filed a habeas corpus petition at the Supreme Court, stating that hospital promoter Durga Prasai has been kept under house arrest. Dr
Bhandari has made the District Administration Office, Bhaktapur, and the District Police Office, Bhaktapur, defendants in the case.

The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for Sunday.

The petitioner has demanded the apex court order to stop the government’s act of violating the freedom of expression and freedom to move and reside in any part of Nepal guaranteed by the constitution.

Prasai has claimed that he has been kept under house arrest. Organizing a press meet at his residence on Friday, Prasai said the police have prevented him from going out of his residence and kept him under house arrest.

Prasai’s supporters organized a demonstration in Balkhu, Kathmandu, on Thursday. Although Prasai had announced plans to hold a demonstration at Tinkune intersection on Friday, the police have prevented his supporters from assembling in Tinkune.
