GWF, CFRD provide relief to disaster-hit families

KATHMANDU: Good Will Foundation (GWF) and China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) jointly distributed relief materials to more than 42 flood-hit families in Teku of Kathmandu on Friday.

Under the “Jointly Facing Challenges, Overcoming Hardships Together” relief operation, the two organizations distributed carefully family packs and food packages to the disaster-hit families. These kits included vital supplies such as daily toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels, and soap), water storage containers (buckets and jars), female hygiene products (sanitary napkins), emergency food supplies (rice, flour, edible oil, and compressed biscuits), and items for warmth and mosquito prevention (blankets, sleeping mats, and mosquito nets), according to a statement issued by the CFRD.

Floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains last weekend claimed more than 240 live while hundreds were injured. The disaster also damaged hundreds of houses and bridges, and washed away vital road connections.

“In response to the disaster, the Good Will Foundation (GWF) immediately began coordinating efforts, maintaining direct communication with Nepal to assess the situation. Together with CFRD, GWF quickly launched the “Assist Nepal’s Catastrophic Flood Relief Operation” to provide immediate aid to those affected in the Kathmandu Valley,” the statement added.

The initiative marked the second collaboration between GWF and CFRD, following their joint efforts during the “International Assistance Operation Against COVID-19: Nepal Community Anti-Epidemic Hygiene” project in 2020.

GWF plans to continue its efforts by launching more livelihood improvement and skills training projects to benefit the people of Nepal, according to the statement.
