KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has said the government was formulating a law to systematize the provision of services and facilities to former officials.
Responding to questions raised by members of the House of Representatives on Monday, Minister Lekhak said that while the government has been providing services and facilities to former dignitaries based on cabinet decisions, efforts are now underway to regulate these provisions by bringing a law.
“The absence of standards for the facilities provided by the government has necessitated the creation of a legal framework,” Lekhak said. “The government will ensure that the state does not incur unnecessary financial burdens while providing facilities to former officials.”
He added that decisions on whether to increase or reduce these benefits will fall under the jurisdiction of parliament, not the government.
The bill related to the facilities for former officials received preliminary approval from the cabinet on December 24 last year.
According to Minister Lekhak, preparatory work for drafting the bill has already begun.
