Govt to bear medical expenses of personnel deployed for election security

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to bear the full cost of medical treatment for security personnel and election police personnel injured during the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.

Briefing the media about the decisions made by Tuesday’s cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Minister for Home Affairs Om Prakash Aryal said the state would cover all treatment expenses incurred by any security personnel or election police personnel injured in the course of the election.

The Cabinet has also decided to provide financial assistance to the dependent family members in the event of their death during that period.

Aryal also said that the Cabinet has approved the implementation action plan of the 16th Periodic Plan and extended by one month the tenure of the inquiry commission formed to implement Supreme Court orders related to the transport sector.

Similarly, the cabinet has decided to continue the ad hoc committee of the Central Executive Committee of the Nepal Red Cross Society until mid-July 2026.

Likewise, in accordance with the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission, the cabinet has decided to appoint two under-secretaries to gazetted first-class positions in the Nepal Judicial Service. It also granted tax exemptions on matters specified in the implementation agreement of the Kalanki–Basundhara section of the Kathmandu Ring Road Improvement Project.

The section is being constructed and upgraded with grant assistance from the Chinese government.

According to Aryal, the cabinet also decided to hold the 10th National Games at an appropriate time after the elections.
