KATHMANDU: Minister of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation, Ranjita Shrestha, has emphasized that cooperatives involved in fraudulent activities will be dealt with according to the law.

Responding to questions raised by parliamentarians regarding the budget allocation for the next financial year in the National Assembly on Thursday, Shrestha said that the government would investigate promoters who have caused trouble for their cooperatives, and take appropriate as per the prevailing laws.

The minister’s comment has come at a time when news reports of cooperative promoters fleeing after misusing public money are doing the rounds in the media.

Minister Shrestha also said that the government has distributed Poor ID cards to 615,061 individuals in 49 districts. “Grievance hearings are underway in 15 districts, while data from 13 districts is being analyzed. We aim to complete the distribution of ID cards to poor families by 2023/24,” she added.
