Govt studying ways to prevent VIPs from seeking hospitalization to evade custody Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane with representatives of Nepal Medical Council.

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane held discussions on Friday with representatives of the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) regarding curbing the trend of high-profile individuals being admitted to hospitals to evade police custody.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Lamichhane sought suggestions from the NMC to discourage this practice. He requested the NMC to prepare a report by examining internal practices and the increasing trend of political leaders and businesspeople being admitted to hospitals immediately after their arrest.

The NMC representatives assured Minister Lamichhane that they would submit the report by Monday.

NMC member Dr. Kunjang Sherpa stated that this is the first instance of the government initiating a study on this unethical practice. Alongside Dr. Sherpa, other NMC members present at the meeting included Dr. Rupak Ghimire, Dr. Pranaya Ratna Shakya, and Dr. Kalu Singh Khatri.
