Govt seeks treatment records of those injured in Gen Z protests

KATHMANDU: The government has instructed health institutions to provide details of the victims they treated during the Gen Z protests of September 8 and 9.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Prakash Budhathoki, said the ministry has asked all health facilities involved in treating those injured during the protests to immediately submit any pending details of injured individuals to the Ministry.

According to Dr Budhatholi, the directive was issued in line with a decision of the coordination committee formed to ensure effective treatment and relief for the injured. The committee has set February 27 as the deadline to submit the details.

“We have asked health institutions to provide the information by February 27 to complete the listing, classification, and reclassification of the injured within the stipulated timeframe,” he added. “The ministry will review applications received by February 27 and make public the final list of individuals injured during the protest.

According to the ministry, it has received classified details of only 200 injured so far. “Many were injured during the Gen Z protests. I think those with minor injuries may not have come forward as they are not eligible for certain benefits,” he added.

The government has decided to provide a monthly allowance of Rs 9,000 to those categorized as critically injured and to caregivers of such individuals, Rs 9,000 to those seriously injured, and Rs 4,000 to those moderately injured.

According to ministry data, a total of 2,599 people were injured during the Gen Z protests.
