KATHMANDU: The government has decided to remove Kulman Ghising from his position as the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
A cabinet meeting held on Monday evening made the decision to relieve Ghising of his duties, according to a minister.
Tensions had escalated between Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Deepak Khadka and Ghising in recent months, with the minister repeatedly seeking clarifications from him.
The meeting also appointed Hitendra Dev Shakya as the new Executive Director of NEA.
Shakya was previously appointed NEA’s executive director in February 2021 for a four-year term. However, following the formation of a new government under Sher Bahadur Deuba in July 2021, he was removed, and Ghising was appointed to the position for a second term.
Shakya challenged the government’s decision in court, seeking an order to overturn his dismissal. However, the apex court declined to issue an interim order. His four-year term ended before the court could deliver a final verdict.
