KATHMANDU: Ministry of Finance has released Rs 50 million to the Cricket Association Nepal (CAN) for Nepal’s preparation for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, CAN announced that the government has released the necessary budget for programs that CAN is preparing to organize for the men’s cricket team ahead of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had met with the men’s cricket team at his office on November 8 last year after Nepal confirmed its spot in the T20 World Cup. During the meeting, Dahal assured CAN of all possible support for Nepal’s preparation for the World Cup and requested it to submit a proposal outlining the programs and activities. CAN had subsequently sent its proposal to the Prime Minister through the Nepal Sports Council.

In its proposal, CAN outlined plans to organize a special training camp ahead of the World Cup, arrange more series and bring in consultants to hone the skills of Nepali players.

In its annual program for 2024 unveiled last month, CAN stated that it would organize a special training program for the men’s cricket team in the US and West Indies ahead of the World Cup.

Nepal is in Group ‘D’ of the T20 World Cup, alongside South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.
