Govt preparing to sign contracts with 41,000 youths for Korean jobs

KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to sign contracts with nearly 41,000 workers who passed the Korean Language Test under South Korea’s Employment Promotion System (EPS).

According to the EPS Branch of the Department of Foreign Employment, contracts will be signed with 40,988 individuals who passed the language test held in March. Maiyan Kandel, director of the EPS Branch, stated that the signing will begin on September 2.

She added that contracts will be signed with 25,168 youths for employment in South Korea’s manufacturing sector, 1,625 in shipbuilding, 4,559 in agriculture and livestock, 5,058 in services, 1,768 in construction, and 2,890 in fisheries.

Likewise, some 9,000 Nepali youths are awaiting departure to South Korea after completing all necessary procedures.

South Korea used to source 100,000 foreign workers annually until 2023. However, this year, the quota has been increased to 170,000 from 16 source countries.

Over 110,000 Nepali youths are currently employed in South Korea, according to the EPS Branch
