KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has once again invited representatives of protesting teachers and school staff for talks.
Ministry spokesperson, Joint Secretary Shivakumar, Sapkota issued a statement on Tuesday, inviting officials of the Confederation of Nepali Teachers (CNT) for the talks scheduled for Wednesday. “We extend a renewed invitation to the CNT to attend talks and dialogue on April 27, 2025, ensuring representation of relief quota and temporary teachers, former higher secondary school teachers, early childhood development teachers, school staff, and all other teacher-employee groups,” the statement added.
Earlier, the ministry had invited representatives of school teachers and staff for discussions and consultations on April 2 and 3.
School teachers and staff have been protesting in Kathmandu for the past week, demanding, among others, immediate enactment of the School Education Bill, which is under consideration in the House of Representatives.
The CNT earlier refused to sit for the talks, stating that there is no point in sitting for the negotiation since passage of the School Education Bill is their sole demand.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday also urged the teachers to join the talks. “There is no need to lie down on the streets or suffer. Let’s talk and resolve the matter,” he said.
