Govt forms panel to study issues raised by Prem Prasad Acharya

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a committee to study the issues raised by Prem Prasad Acharya who burned himself to death in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Joint Secretary of the ministry, Narayan Prasad Risal, leads the six-member committee.

Under Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, a Superintendent of Police from the Nepal Police and Deputy Investigative Director of the National Investigation Department are the members of the committee.

The cabinet meeting held on Wednesday had decided to form a committee to study the incident.

The committee will investigate all the issues raised by Acharya on his social media post and make needful recommendations to the government.

Before setting himself on fire in front of the parliament building on Tuesday, Acharya wrote in a Facebook post that he was unable to run his business due to mounting debts. He also explained how small businesses in Nepal suffer.
