Govt forms land commission in 56 districts

KATHMANDU: The government has formed Land-related Problem Resolution Commissions in 56 districts.

Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Balram Adhikari, Monday appointed chairpersons of the commission in these districts. The newly appointed district chairpersons will be sworn in on Monday itself.

According to the Ministry for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, land commission chairpersons have been named in 10 districts of Koshi Province, six of Madhesh, eight each of Bagmati and Karnali, 12 of Lumbini, seven of Sudurpashchim and five of Gandaki.

However, the ministry has yet to name chairpersons for such commissions in Tehrathum, Dhankuta, and Sunsari in Koshi Province; Siraha and Rautahat in Madhesh Province; Dolakha, Dhading, Chitwan and Makwanpur in Bagmati Province; Gorkha, Kaski, Parbat, Syangja, Myagdi and Baglung in Gandaki Province; Jumla and Kalikot in Karnali Province; and Bajhang and Kanchanpur in Sudurpaschim Province.

The ruling coalition has shared the position of land commission chairpersons in 77 districts among themselves. While Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML have chairpersons of 35 districts each, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) will nominate chairpersons for four and three districts respectively.
