KATHMANDU: The government has formed a three-member high-level investigation commission to recommend measures for addressing the problems of loan shark victims.

The cabinet meeting held on Monday formed a commission under the leadership of former Special Court Judge Gauri Bahadur Karki. Former AIG of Nepal Police Uttam Bahadur Subedi and DIG Ganesh Babu Aryal are the members of the commission.

According to Minister for Communication and Information and Technology, Rekha Sharma, the commission has been given three months to prepare its report. The meeting also decided to open the office of the commission at Janakpurdham, the capital of Madhesh Province.

More than half of the loan shark victims are from Madhesh Province, according to a report submitted by a taskforce formed by the home ministry last year. Of the 1,937 complaints filed by the loan shark victims, 1,330 complaints were registered in Madhesh Province.
