Govt extends tenure of two transitional justice commissions by a year Minister Rekha Sharma

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to extend the tenure of two transitional justice commissions by a year until the end of the fiscal year 2024/25.

A cabinet meeting held on Thursday decided to issue an order to remove the obstacles to extend the tenure of the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission until mid-July 2025, according to Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma.

Likewise, the cabinet also decided not to make the national ID number mandatory for social security allowances. Stating that monsoon-induced disasters have made the distribution of national IDs difficult, the cabinet has directed the home ministry to take necessary initiatives to not make the national ID mandatory to receive social security allowances.

Earlier, the government had published a notice in the Gazette making the national ID mandatory for different government services, including social security allowances.

This was probably the last cabinet meeting of the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government, as the CPN (Maoist Center) leader is scheduled to undergo a floor test in the House of Representatives on Friday.
