Govt directs NOC to roll back decision to raise fuel prices

KATHMANDU: The government has directed Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) not to implement its decision to raise the prices of petroleum products.

An emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers called by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal directed the state-owned petroleum monopolist to withdraw its decision to hike fuel prices.

The NOC on Saturday raised the price of petrol by Rs 2 per liter, diesel by Rs 6 per liter, and liquified petroleum gas (LPG) by a whopping Rs 215 per cylinder (14.6 kg).

Before the meeting, Prime Minister Dahal summoned NOC Executive Director Umesh Thani to his office and expressed objection to the decision to raise fuel prices without coordinating with the government.

Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said that the government had directed the NOC to immediately roll back its decision to raise fuel prices.
