KATHMANDU: The government has declared a public holiday for Monday to Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.
Issuing a statement on Sunday evening, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced the public holiday as Muslims across Nepal celebrate the festival.
The decision was taken on the basis of a notice published in the Nepal Gazette in February last year which listed Eid-ul-Fitr as an official public holiday.
Eid al-Fitr is the first of the two main festivals in Islam. It falls on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.
