KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has objected to a government decision that has dragged the presidential institution into controversy.
Sharma was referring to the amnesty offered to Yograj Dhakal, aka Regal Dhakal, of Banke by President Ram Chandra Poudel on the occasion of Constitution Day on the recommendation of the government.
Dhakal was serving a life sentence for the murder of Chetan Manandhar. Dhakal, a leader of Nepal Tarun Dal – the youth wing of Nepali Congress (NC), was greeted by NC supporters who paraded him through the streets.
Sharma, however, did not mention Dhakal’s name. “The Officiating Prime Minister is here with us, and so is the Law Minister. Our activities are causing criticism of the presidential institution. It doesn’t seem to be correct in any way,” he added.
