Govt decides to grant other agencies access to National ID system [Cabinet Decisions]

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to grant access to the National Identity Management System to various government agencies that meet the prescribed legal security standards.

A cabinet meeting held on Wednesday made the decision.

The decision means government agencies can now get access to the National Identity Management System for services related to foreign employment, court case management, foreign study permits, local registration, citizenship, social security, relief and disaster management and immigration

Given below are other decisions taken by the cabinet:

National Assembly Election Date: The government decided to hold the by-election for a vacant National Assembly seat on January 25. The election will fill 18 seats that will become vacant on March 4.

Approval: The Cabinet has granted full approval to structure and manage the Samarjung Company Office under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Promotion: The Cabinet approved the promotion of one Colonel to Brigadier General and one Major General to Lieutenant General.

Amendments:

  • Decided to amend Schedule 2 of the Remuneration and Facilities of Officials and Members of the Federal Parliament Act, 2016, to reduce the staff quota in the secretariat of officials and members of parliament.
  • Endorsed an amendment to the Press and Publications (Second Amendment) Regulation, 2025.

Foreign Visits:

  • The Cabinet has approved Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Rajan Adhikari’s participation in the 93rd Interpol General Assembly to be held in Morocco from November 23 to 26.
  • Dr Govinda Prasad Sharma has been approved to attend the 11th session of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture to be held in Peru from November 21 to 28.
  • A delegation led by the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will represent Nepal at the 16th Nepal–European Union Joint Commission Meeting in Brussels, Belgium.
  • President Ramchandra Paudel will lead the Nepali delegation to the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar, from October 31 to November 3.
  • Education Secretary Chudamani Paudel has been approved to participate in the Tokyo and Bangkok Convention Committee meetings to be held in Bangkok from November 16 to 18.
