KATHMANDU: The government has decided to recommend that the President convene the budget session of the Federal Parliament for April 25.
According to Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Bidya Bhattarai, a meeting of the cabinet held on Tuesday evening took the decision.
Minister Bhattarai stated that the decision to call the session slightly earlier than usual was made to facilitate the passage of the School Education Bill, which is currently under consideration in Parliament.
The budget session convened on May 10 last year.
“The session has been recommended for April 25 to pass the School Education Bill currently under discussion in the Federal Parliament, and to ensure necessary coordination and facilitation from the government’s side,” she added.
Bhattarai also said that the government is sensitive to the demands raised by the Confederation of Nepali Teachers (CNT).
“We are currently holding discussions on the legitimate demands raised by the school teachers. The government is ready to address them,” she added.
School teachers are organizing demonstrations in Kathmandu since April 2, demanding the immediate enactment of the School Education Bill. To put pressure on the government, they have decided to boycott the evaluation of Secondary Education Examination (SEE) answer sheets and the national examinations of Grade 12.
