Govt conspiracies against me have not ended: Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has clarified that he is not a coward silently watching corruption and loot.

Addressing supporters at the party office on Monday, Lamichhane said he was ready to confront any power. “I am prepared to fight against any force whatsoever. If the government has more allegations to add on me, go ahead and add them,” Lamichhane said. “I warn this lootocracy operating under the guise of democracy and republic—Lamichhane will never back down.”

Lamichhane added that the series of conspiracies by the government has not ended yet. “Five months ago, the government forcibly arrested me from this very place by fabricating false charges. The series of conspiracies hasn’t ended yet,” he said. “But I am ready to face any circumstance whatsoever.”

He also said the formation of the Nepali Congress-UML alliance had eliminated any possibility of a strong, stable government from parliament. “The NC and UML have destroyed all prospects of forming a strong government. They didn’t unite to do good—they formed this government solely to save themselves,” he added.

Lamichhane stepped back from party activities after being implicated in a cooperative scandal. On December 23,  RSP handed over the acting presidency to Dol Prasad Aryal. Lamichhane’s parliamentary seat also remains suspended.

Although the party submitted an appeal to the Federal Parliament Secretariat in mid-January to lift this suspension after different district courts released him on bail, the secretariat has yet to make a decision.
