KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government is committed to controlling price hikes.
Responding to questions raised by lawmakers during Thursday’s session of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Oli added that the government has been regularly monitoring the market to ensure the smooth supply of essential commodities.
“We have activated market monitoring committees to take action against those creating artificial shortages in the market. This has helped control price inflation. To protect consumer rights and ensure judicial redress, a consumer court has recently been established and put into operation,” he added.
Oli claimed that inflation in the current fiscal year is lower compared to the previous fiscal year. “The average consumer price inflation in the first seven months of the current fiscal year stands at 4.16%, compared to 5.01% during the same period last year,” he said. “The current fiscal year has seen a consistent approach to reducing inflation through a flexible monetary policy.”
Oli expressed confidence that the continued provision of subsidies and concessional loans for agricultural production will help stabilize food supply, increase agricultural output, manage imports of agricultural products and maintain price stability.
