KATHMANDU: Speaker of the dissolved House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, has said that the incumbent government attacked the parliamentary system by dissolving Parliament.
Addressing a program organized by the Federal Parliament Secretariat on Sunday to mark the Parliament Service Day, Ghimire said there was no direct link between the vandalism of the Parliament building during the Gen Z movement on September 9 and the subsequent dissolution of Parliament three days later.
He accused the government of attempting to impose invisible financial and administrative restrictions on Parliament and its Secretariat.
Stating that Parliament is not a branch subordinate to the government, Ghimire cautioned the government against any activity that could undermine the autonomy of the legislature. “If Parliament is weakened, democracy will weaken, and when democracy weakens, the state fails,” he said.
Ghimire expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would deliver justice on the issue of Parliament dissolution on time.
