KATHMANDU: The government has agreed to remove provisions related to the statute of limitation from the Corruption Prevention Act Amendment Bill which is currently under discussion in the House of Representatives.
Participating in a discussion in the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives on Friday, Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak expressed commitment to remove the five-year statute of limitation to register graft cases. He has agreed to allow corruption cases to be filed at any time.
“Let’s remove the 5-year statute of limitations from the bill and keep it as it was before. There are amendments suggesting that cases can be filed at any time. The government is ready to remove the statute of limitations,” Lekhak said
Earlier, lawmakers of the ruling party had put pressure to insert a five-year statute of limitations for corruption cases. Opposition parties, however, had argued that there should be no such limitations.
