KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has called on the government to correct the way it is functioning or step down promptly.
“The longer this government remains in power, the greater the risk to our national identity, sovereignty, and political stability,” Koirala said, calling for the formation of a new government under the leadership of the Nepali Congress. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Kapilvastu District Committee’s first general convention in Taulihawa on Wednesday, Koirala said: “The rise in the prices of essential goods just before the major festive season is a matter of concern. The problem is so severe that ordinary citizens are afford their basic meals.”
Addressing concerns within the party, Koirala said the NC was facing difficulties due to President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s disregard for the party’s statute. “I don’t harbor any personal animosity towards President Deuba. However, it is essential for the party to operate in accordance with its established systems and statutes, and I will not compromise on this matter,” he added.
Koirala also said that the party foundation had become weak as the hard work and dedication of party workers were not being adequately recognized or evaluated.
