Gold price up Rs 20,500 per tola to reach record Rs 339,300 per tola

KATHMANDU: Gold price hit a record high of Rs 339,300 per tola (11.664 grams) in the domestic market on Thursday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Associations, the price of the yellow metal increased by Rs 20,500 per tola compared to Wednesday.

The price of silver also went up by Rs 205 per tola to reach Rs 7,505 per tola on Thursday.

In the international market, gold is nearing the $5,600 per ounce mark. According to Reuters, Prices extended their blistering rally on Thursday, hitting a record just shy of $5,600 an ounce, as investors sought safe-haven assets amid mounting geopolitical and economic uncertainties.

As Nepal meets its entire gold demand through imports, fluctuations in international prices are directly reflected in the domestic market.

Prices of gold have gone up by more than 30% in less than a month. On January 1, gold was traded at Rs 259,600 per tola.

The price of gold has gone up 111.27% in just a year. The yellow metal was traded in the domestic market at Rs 160,600 per tola on January 29 last year.
