KATHMANDU: Gold and silver prices hit record highs in the domestic market on Wednesday, reflecting a sharp surge in international prices.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold rose to Rs 318,800 (11.664 grams) per tola on Wednesday, while silver was priced at Rs 7,300 per tola.
The yellow metal was traded at Rs 309,300 per tola on Tuesday, while silver was priced at Rs 6,870.
Gold also climbed to a historic high of $5,300 per ounce in the international market on Wednesday. According to Reuters, the weakening of the US dollar and investor anticipation ahead of a Federal Reserve monetary policy decision pushed gold prices higher.
As Nepal meets its entire gold demand through imports, fluctuations in global prices are directly reflected in the domestic market.
