Get HPV vaccination without hesitation: Minister Gautam

KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population Dr. Sudha Gautam has said that cervical cancer can be cured through treatment if detected at an early stage.

In her video message on the launch of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign against cervical cancer on Sunday, Gautam said the vaccine is safe and urged everyone to get vaccinated without hesitation. She also requested that all women above the age of 30 undergo regular cervical cancer screening.

“HPV infection is the main cause of cervical cancer. This disease can be prevented through vaccination against the virus,” Minister Gautam said. “The government has included the HPV vaccine in the regular immunization campaign since last year with the aim of eliminating cervical cancer in Nepal.”

The HPV vaccination campaign will continue across the country till February 29 for girls in Grade 6 and out-of-school girls aged 10. Similarly, girls currently studying in Grades 7 to 10 who missed last year’s vaccination campaign, as well as out-of-school girls aged 11 to 14, will also be vaccinated.
