KATHMANDU: Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel was decorated with the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army during a ceremony in New Delhi on Thursday.
Indian President Droupadi Murmu conferred the title at the Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Nepal and India share a long-standing tradition of bestowing the honorary rank of General on each other’s army chiefs for the past several decades. President Ram Chandra Paudel conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army on Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi during an Investiture Ceremony at the President’s Office in Kathmandu on November 21.
Discussions on the current status of both nations and topics such as military modernization were also held on the occasion.
CoAS General Sigdel has already met his counterpart, General Upendra Dwivedi, National Security Adviser of India, Ajit Doval, Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan as well as senior officials including the Foreign Secretary and Defense Secretary. He is scheduled to meet Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh later on Thursday.
