KATHMANDU: The establishment faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) has accused supporters of the special general convention of being insensitive to the need for party unity.
Mahat also claimed that the establishment faction has been making efforts for party unity. “Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has been putting in all efforts for unity. We are trying to reach a consensus, but there is no sign that the two general secretaries have the mindset to take the party forward as a united force,” he added.
The 2nd Special General Convention of the NC is underway in Kathmandu at the call of General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma.
Mahat said that the roadmap that the two general secretaries are pursuing has failed to bring them to a common ground. “The two general secretaries have not even held dialogue with Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba or Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka on the issue of party unity,” he said. “There was no indication of an intention to consult the president and the acting president to reach an understanding.”
Mahat also claimed that the general secretaries had not engaged in dialogue with the leadership for organizing the general convention. “Is sending someone with an invitation enough?” he added.
Spokesperson Mahat further claimed that very few general convention representatives are attending the special convention. “A majority of representatives are not attending the special convention,” he added.
