KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has insisted that the party’s general convention will be held before the 2027 general election.
Speaking to journalists in Chitwan, Thapa said the general convention would be held every four years as stipulated by the law and the party constitution. “We have been working to resolve the issue of the party’s active membership by mid-April to hold the general convention within the stipulated timeframe,” Thapa said. “There could be a delay of two to three months. Even though the party constitution allows the leadership to postpone the general convention by a year, the extension should not exceed a full year.”
The four-year term of the incumbent executive committee ends in December.
“Our effort is to hold the general convention within four years. However, considering factors like the distribution of party membership, we cannot fully guarantee that we will meet the exact deadline. Discussions are ongoing with the party president regarding the possibility of extending the deadline by one year,” Thapa added.
