KATHMANDU: ‘Gen Z’ government employees have demanded the scrapping of trade unions of civil servants affiliated to different political parties.

“We call for the immediate scrapping of the trade union in the civil service, which is tied to politics and has been identified as a root cause of distortions and malpractices in employee transfers, promotions and public service delivery,” the Public Administration Transformation Campaign, 2025, said in a six-point statement on Monday.

They have also demanded the immediate dismissal of top administrative officials who remain in office despite the resignation of the failed political leadership that appointed them.

Issuing a six-point statement on Monday, the Public Administration Transformation Campaign, 2025, urged the government to immediately relieve high-ranking officials, including Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, Federal Parliament Secretary-General Padma Prasad Pandey and Home Secretary Gokarna Prasad Duwadi of their duties.

“It has already been confirmed that the current situation arose due to the incompetence, ineffectiveness, short-sightedness and irresponsibility of the political and administrative leadership. Since the political leadership has already been forced out, it is evident that transformation cannot be achieved under the current administrative leadership, which acted merely as instruments of that political leadership,” they said in the statement. “We therefore strongly demand the immediate dismissal of the Chief Secretary, the Secretary-General of the Federal Parliament, the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, the Home Secretary, and other responsible officials and employees.”

They added in the statement that the interim government formed under the pressure of the Gen Z movement, which is tasked with holding elections for the House of Representatives on March 5, faces public expectations of establishing good governance. “We, therefore, request all government employees to join hands for the transformation of public service as per the spirit of the Gen Z movement,” it added.
