GB Rai, 16 others chargesheeted for misusing cooperative savings in Chitwan

KATHMANDU: The District Government Attorney’s Office, Chitwan, has filed a case against Gitendra Babur (GB) Rai and 16 others on charges of misappropriating savings from Chitwan-based Sahara Multipurpose Saving and Credit Cooperatives.

According to Shanti Prasad Luitel, the chief of the District Government Attorney’s Office, Chitwan, GB Rai, who is absconding after misusing savings from different cooperatives, is the chairperson of the cooperatives.

The office has named Sagar KC, Hemanta Rai, Bhupendra Rai, Ashish Anand, Ananta Babu Rai, Chhatramani Bhattarai, Devendra Babu Rai, Dinesh Roka, Tirtha Raj Lamichhane, Manoj Gurung, Deepa Neupane, Shiva Prasad Acharya, Kumar Ramtel, Vir Bahadur Ranabhat, Sharan Bishwakarma and Than Bahadur Budha Magar as defendants in the charge sheet.

They have been accused of misappropriating Rs 376.58 million of 446 depositors. The office has sought to recover the misappropriated amount, along with fines equal to the misappropriated sum, and prison sentences for the defendants as prescribed by law.
