POKHARA: The Gandaki Provincial Government felicitated 16 exemplary women of the province on Friday on the occasion of the 114th International Women’s Day.
The Ministry of Social Development and Health, Gandaki Province, awarded the 16 women with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a letter of appreciation each.
Women honored by the provincial government include Kamala Parajuli and Bina Silwal from the social service sector; Kamala Giri, Phunjo Zhangam Lama, Poornima Shrestha, Manu Gurung, Diki Lhamu Lama, and Nanumaya Gurung from the adventure tourism sector; Rekh Maya Gurung from sports; Taramaya Thapa from the language and culture sector; and Chandrakala Rana, Kanchhi Gurung, and Hira Bhattarai from entrepreneurship sector. Likewise, Pratikshya Kafle of Kantipur, Durga Adhikari of Radio Success, and Radhika Kandel of RSS were honored from the journalism sector.
Similarly, six exemplary women cooperatives registered in the province were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 75,000 each.
This is the first occasion that the provincial government has recognized the contribution of women in the province.
Prakash Poudel, secretary at the Ministry of Social Development and Health, said the program will get continuity in the coming years as well.
The ministry also took out a procession to commemorate International Women’s Day on Friday morning.
