Gandaki earmarks 60% of Rs 31.97 billion budget for capital spending

POKHARA: The Gandaki Province Government has unveiled a budget of Rs 31.97 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26. Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Dr Takaraj Gurung, presented the budget in the meeting of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly on Sunday.

The new budget is Rs 1 billion less than the current fiscal year’s allocation of Rs 32.97 billion.

Of the total budget, Rs 12.63 billion (39.5%) has been allocated for recurrent expenditure, while Rs 19.09 billion (59.7%) is earmarked for capital expenditure. Additionally, Rs 257.8 million has been set aside for financial management.

To fund the budget, the province expects to receive Rs 7.73 billion in financial equalization grants and Rs 9.89 billion through revenue sharing from the federal government. It also anticipates Rs 498.9 million from royalty sharing, Rs 3.35 billion from conditional grants, Rs 639.7 million from complementary grants, and Rs 498.6 million from special grants. Internal revenue is projected to contribute Rs 5.45 billion.

The provincial government aims to mobilize Rs 1.75 billion through internal borrowing to meet the resource shortfall.

Minister Gurung said that the budget has prioritized the development of tourism, agriculture and industry.

As per the constitutional provision, all seven provincial governments must bring their fiscal budget on Asar 1 (June 15 this year) as per the Nepali calendar.
