KATHMANDU: Fanindra Devkota has been re-appointed as the Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Water Supply of the Gandaki Province Government.

Devkota was relieved of the position on June 11, three days after he was sworn in as the minister, following his dismissal by the CPN (Maoist Center) for defying party whip.

The Nepal Samajbadi Party (NSP) leader, who was elected to the Gandaki Province Assembly using the election symbol of the CPN (Maoist Center), defied the Maoist Center’s whip and supported the motion of vote of confidence tabled by Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey.

Devkota challenged the decision at the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court last week ordered all concerned to allow Devkota to discharge his responsibilities as the province assembly member until the final verdict is passed.
