Gaire advises Maoist Center against using teachers’ protest for political gains Thakur Gaire

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Thakur Gaire has advised CPN (Maoist Center) not to use the ongoing protest of school teachers as a weapon to topple the government.

Speaking during the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Gaire said that attempts to create difficulties for the government through the protest of professionals, using them as a tool to overthrow the government, or aspiring to become Prime Minister through such means must end.

Gaire added that the education sector cannot make progress if teachers say one thing during discussions with the government and another on the streets. “I have found the representatives of teachers very excited and positive during talks with the government. However, their tone suddenly changes once they reach the streets,” he added. “Solely blaming the ruling party for the delay in advancing the School Education Bill would not absolve anyone.”

Gaire also said those instigating clashes between teachers and security personnel on the streets would not go unpunished.

“The Bill is currently under consideration in a parliamentary committee. We need the collective commitment of all for its early passage,” he added.
