KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa said he would now begin preparations for the parliamentary party election.
Talking to media persons after getting elected to the House of Representatives from the Kathmandu-4 constituency on Tuesday, he staked a claim for the post of Prime Minister.
“The people are not only looking for a stable government. They want new faces in the government. The NC will give that new face,” he said, adding: “It will not only assure the ruling coalition, but also the general public.”
He also said that the five-party coalition will get the majority and will form the government.
According to the counting results published by the Election Commission, Thapa defeated Dr Rajan Bhattarai of CPN-UML by 7,447 votes. While Thapa received 21,302 votes, Dr Bhattarai got 13,855 votes.
This is Thapa’s third victory in the Kathmandu-4 constituency.
