KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has expressed objection to the decisions to grant amnesty to Resham Chaudhary and to authenticate the Citizenship Bill.
Speaking at a program organized by the Nepal Press Union in Kathmandu on Friday, Thapa said he would fight against these government decisions that were made with the consent of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba without discussing the matter in the party. He emphasized that these decisions contradict the party’s core beliefs.
“It is essential to halt these decisions that go against the fundamental principles of our party. We must prevent a situation where all members of the party have to bear the consequences of such decisions,” Thapa asserted. “If the party continues to make decisions of this nature, the burden will become so heavy that it will hinder the party’s ability to recover.”
Thapa said he would initiate a nationwide campaign to transform the party into one that represents grassroots cadres, rather than being limited to a select few ‘brothers’.
